We will guide you to all the attractions; great and small. We will show you not only the witnesses of the past that are made out of stone, but also the way of life as it was in Regensburg throughout the ages. Fee: € 5,00 per person Guided Tour: Prince of Thurn and Taxis Palace and the Cloister of St. Emmeram Tuesday, 21 September 2004, 2:00 pm 3:30 pm In 1812, the princes of Thurn and Taxis were partly reimbursed for the loss of their postal monopoly in the kingdom of Bavaria by receiving the monastic buildings of the secularized Abbey of St. Emmeram. Beginning 1816 these buildings were to become a Palace. The visitor has the opportunity to view court rooms in the south and east wings (the latter still being the residence of the family). These include the marble stairway, the ballroom, numerous salons, the throne room, the private chapel and the winter garden. The cloister of the former Benedictine monastery St Emmeram, built in romanesque and gothic style, is considered to be one of the most impressive of its kind in Germany. Its oldest sections date back to the 11th and its most recent parts to the 14th century. Learn how glass was designed and produced through the centuries and how it is made today. If you ever wanted to be a craftsman: Here you will get your chance: You can try making glass yourself. Of course there is also the opportunity to purchase lovely glass souvenirs. After lunch in a typical Bavarian restaurant, we will have a look at a traditional Schnaps distillery. For centuries people in the Bavarian forest have been producing a whole variety of herbal schnapses which are said to heal almost every illness. Visit the falconers of Rosenburg and see their fascinating show with raptors of all kinds. Have lunch at the traditional restaurant "Fasslwirtschaft" , then we go on to Dietfurt, a picturesque small town at the river. At the beautiful restaurant "Ritterschenke", located high above the river with a fantastic view and next to a mystic castle ruin, we will have coffee break, before we go back to Regensburg. Additional tickets: € 90,00 Guided tour to the Benedictine monastery of Weltenburg Friday, 24 September 2004, 10:00 am 4:20 pm Experience the fascinating landscape along the river Danube. We go by bus through beautiful Danube Valley to Kelheim where we visit the famous Liberation Hall. Then we will walk through the famous Danube Gorge to the Benedictine Monastery of Weltenburg, one of the oldest in Bavaria (from 620 AD). The monastery church, built by the Asam brothers between 1716 -18 is one of the gems of Bavarian Baroque architecture. On a short walk we will explore the surroundings of the monastery. After the walk you can relax in the beer garden and enjoy the beer from the monastery's brewery. The monks of this monastery with the oldest brewery of the world where documents are available as far back as 1050 AD have been proud of the exceptional good taste of their beer.
